William Gallas believes Chelsea won’t win the Premier League next season, and thinks they should be looking at making the quarter or semi final of the Champions League.

Chelsea are currently at the Club World Cup and face Palmeiras on Friday night with a place in the last four up for grabs.

The Blues have got a great opportunity to make the final, but there’s still plenty of work to be done until that becomes a reality.

Gallas speaks on Chelsea targets for next season

Depending on how far Chelsea go, the Blues won’t have much preparation for the new season, but have already strengthened their squad with the signings of Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro.

Dario Essugo has arrived, whilst Andrey Santos has returned from loan, and Estevao will join after the Club World Cup, with the squad arguably stronger than the one which finished last season.

The Blues had a successful campaign under Maresca as the Italian guided Chelsea back to the Champions League, and also won the Conference League.

Chelsea will be expected to push on again next season and former Blue Gallas has had his say on what the targets should be.

“They will try to be close, that is sure, but they won’t win the Premier League. In the Champions League, they’ll be looking at a quarter-final or a semi-final. If they can achieve that, it will be another step.

“It means they are improving. Chelsea is a club that must win trophies. I think next season they may be able to win the FA Cup or the Carabao Cup.”

Further signings set to arrive

Chelsea may have already added to their squad, but they are still in the market for further reinforcements, with another attacker and a defender a possibility.

West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus is a player of interest, although it’s likely an attacker will need to leave before a move can be made for the Ghana international.

Chelsea also need back-up to Marc Cucurella at left back, and have been linked with Ajax star Jorrel Hato, who can also play at centre back.
