Leeds United legend Jon Newsome is of the view that the Whites star Daniel James can fill the boots of Crysencio Summerville if he manages to keep himself fit.
After failing to get promoted last season, Leeds were dealing with PSR issues in the summer and decided to cash in on some of their star players, including Summerville.
Summerville was sold to West Ham United and Leeds did bring in attackers to fill the void, with Largie Ramazani and Manor Solomon arriving.
On Sunday, it was James who stood up to the occasion though and delivered an impressive performance with an assist of the winning goal for Willy Gnonto in injury time to help Leeds to a 4-3 win.
Newsome pointed out that James was unplayable at times against the Swans and added that the Leeds winger put in an unselfish performance for his team.
The ex-Whites star also thinks that James, if he gets a run of games and manages to stay fit, can fill the boots of Summerville.
“He is a great player and he is the one that will fill the boots of Summerville”, Newsome said on BBC Radio Leeds post match.
“I think he is the one, if he gets the run of games and keeps fit.
“He’s too good for the Championship in my opinion.
“And I think he was unselfish today.
“He was unplayable at times today, and his work rate and his pace, defenders think they’ve got time and he nicks the ball off them.”
James has managed to score two goals so far this season and on Sunday he laid on two assists against his former club Swansea City.
