Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has offered the latest from inside the club surrounding the 115 charges issued by the Premier League in 2023.
The independent hearing into the alleged breaches of the English top-flight’s financial rules by Manchester City took place between September and December 2024, and while a decision was anticipated for the first quarter of 2025, there have been no developments.
Manchester City have strenuously denied all of the charges put to them and continue to reject any essence of wrongdoing, with punishments for charges of such severity expected to range from major fines to points deductions.
Pep Guardiola has largely been the only spokesperson for the club on the matter given his frequent run-ins with the media before and after matches, and told one press conference back in September that critics want the club “wiped from the face of the Earth”.
Now, for the first time since his last address to supporters via the same format, club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has spoken out on the subject having last told fans, “Let’s be judged by the facts and not by claims and and counter claims.”
Now, speaking during his annual end-of-season interview with in-house media at the club, Al Mubarak has insisted that there continues to be no ‘ruling’ regarding Manchester City’s alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules.
“I suppose the only thing I can say is we still don’t have a ruling. Once there’s a ruling, I’ll be able to speak about it. Until then we just have to be patient,” Al Mubarak told supporters.
He added, featuring a ‘promise’ concerning the matter and how it is addressed publicly, “We will talk about it, I promise you, once we have the ruling.”
Regarding a timeframe concerning a possible verdict on the matter, the latest line of reporting has come courtesy of The Telegraph’s James Ducker, who reported in early April that a ruling is unlikely before the summer.
The report explained that no hard-and-fast deadline was ever set on a verdict, and given the number of charges, complexities, amount of evidence heard and challenged, and scrutiny, the time taken is not seen as a surprise in legal circles.
For now, Manchester City continue to conduct their business as planned, with a top-level investment expected in numerous areas of their first-team squad, as the likes of AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders and Lyon’s Rayan Cherki are eyed for transfers into the club.
