The Hungarian national team boss has reacted to Dominik Szoboszlai falling out of the Liverpool first team ahead of Euro 2024.

Dominik Szoboszlai will be going to Euro 2024, as confirmed this week. Not that anyone expected anything else for the Hungary captain.

Szoboszlai will lead his country at the tournament - their third consecutive European championships. But has he had the ideal buildup?

Jurgen Klopp hasn't actually been playing him very often. Szobozlai has only started one of Liverpool's last five fixtures and didn't exactly get plenty of minutes in the others.

Four minutes against Fulham, 67 against Everton, just stoppage time against West Ham United, seven against Tottenham Hotspur and 14 vs Aston Villa. Not exactly what fans expected from such an expensive player.

But Hungary boss Marco Rossi is looking on the bright side. This should mean his star player is actually fresh for the tournament.

“If I have to say the truth knowing Dominik I don’t think he will arrive depressed,” said Rossi, per M4 Sport.

“I think that he’s thinking that in the time that he’s not spending on the pitch with Liverpool will give him more power and more freshness for our matches. I hope for this.

“But I think that he’s already focused on what he would like to do and he will do [at the Euros] because in this moment, yesterday [against Aston Villa] he played 20 minutes so it was just a warm up for him. Probably the next match will be the same.

He’s already focused on the European Championship. He will arrive fresh and this is good overall for us. I think also that he will not suffer under the psychological aspect of this situation.”

Dominik Szoboszlai at Liverpool

It was a season that started very brightly for Szoboszlai but petered out. He has just three Premier League goals to his name (the last came in January) and two assists (both came in the same fixture back in October).

It's certainly not what Liverpool hoped for from Szoboszlai - but it's also been a strange season. The 23-year-old will now go away with his country and that might be exactly what the Reds need, too.

It's a chance for him to find his rhythm again and hopefully carry some momentum into the new season. Momentum he doesn't currently have.

That's certainly what Hungary are hoping for, anyway.
