Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has spoken out on the challenge awaiting his side, in their upcoming meeting with Real Madrid.
The headline fixture of the upcoming Champions League gameweek is of course set to play out at Anfield on Wednesday night.
The clash in question will see the aforementioned Liverpool play host to La Liga champions Real Madrid.
The fixture stands as one of the most recognisable in the recent history of the continental game, with the English and Spanish heavyweights having locked horns on the grandest stages on a host of occasions over recent years.
And it is the latter who, time and time again, have come up trumps.
Liverpool, in fact, are winless in their last eight meetings with Real Madrid, a stretch consisting of just one draw, and seven defeats.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of potential ‘revenge’ was put to the aforementioned Virgil van Dijk.
And, during an interview with the Liverpool Echo (as cited by Relevo), the Dutch icon went on to explain:
“To be honest, I don’t need the feeling of revenge to be ready. But it’s the Champions League. It’s a big game, a very nice duel for the neutral fan and we want to dominate and get a victory.
“I’ve never beaten them. That record is disappointing, so we have to bounce back and be ready for this game.”
