The future of Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has been in the spotlight in recent weeks.

Along with his teammates Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, the England international has entered the final six months of his contract at Anfield.

With nothing decided over a new deal at the Premier League leaders and with Real Madrid heavily chasing him to become their new right-back, the defender could be on his way out of the club soon.

While the La Liga leaders have already made contact with Liverpool over the possible future transfer of the right-back, transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Reds defender will not be leaving the club in the January transfer window.

The Spanish giants are confident about signing the defender as a free agent in the summer but Liverpool have still not lost hope and they are giving their all to extend his contract at the club.

Romano said on his Youtube channel:

“The expectations since December is for nothing to happen in January, so I don’t expect any move for Trent Alexander-Arnold. Real Madrid tried to approach Liverpool at the beginning of the window but they understood immediately that for Liverpool, it was not the case to negotiate 20, 25, 30 million.

“Real Madrid remain absolutely convinced and confident that they can bring Trent to the club in the summer on a free transfer.

“Liverpool never had an intention to negotiate in January and it’s also important to say on Liverpool that they want to try until the end so we will respect that and follow the situation.”

Can Liverpool convince Trent Alexander-Arnold to stay?

It appears like Alexander-Arnold has still not made a decision on his future yet but there is every reason why Liverpool should be worried about it.

The defender, who has contributed greatly to the successful season of Liverpool so far, have left it late to decide his future at the club and that has put the Merseyside club in a weaker position.

With interest from Real Madrid high and the prospect of playing football with his best friend Jude Bellingham in Spain, the Spanish giants remain the favourite to agree a deal with him for a move in the summer.

Ideally, the Reds would want Alexander-Arnold to stay at the club for a long time but they are still working on a contingency plan if the defender leaves.
