Don Goodman has told FLW his verdict on Leeds United's links to Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy

Don Goodman doesn’t expect Jamie Vardy to make the move to Leeds United this summer following his Leicester City exit.

It was reported by Teamtalk last week that the veteran forward is on the Whites’ radar going into the transfer market.

The 38-year-old has confirmed that he will be departing the Foxes at the end of the campaign, with the club suffering relegation back to the Championship.

Leeds are going in the opposite direction after winning the second division title, and could look to bolster Daniel Farke’s squad by adding an experienced striker to their lineup.

Jamie Vardy Leeds claim

Goodman believes that Vardy could be a good impact sub for a team in the Premier League given his tally of eight goals for a struggling Leicester side this year.

However, he’s certain that the forward won’t be joining Leeds to become a regular starter this summer.

“Jamie Vardy is going to have some options, whether or not those options will be in the Premier League remains to be seen,” Goodman exclusively told Football League World.

“I think Wrexham have been linked with him.

“Despite Leicester having the most horrific season, he still scored eight Premier League goals and got three assists.

“So, I can understand that there might be a role to play, certainly as an impact sub coming off the bench of a Premier League club.

“So, I would understand the links to Leeds United if they were indeed true, but I wouldn’t imagine Jamie Vardy going to Elland Road to be the regular starter in the Premier League.”

Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League at the second attempt, earning 100 points on their way to the Championship title, finishing ahead of Burnley due to their superior goal difference after the two sides were level on points.

Vardy could still play a role at a Premier League level

Vardy is far from his best these days, but a tally of eight goals this season isn’t to be sniffed at either.

Leeds could be in line for a new forward to help them secure their safety in the league beyond one year.

But the Leicester striker would only be a short-term solution to their desire to become a greater, more consistent attacking threat at this level.

While he could potentially give them one good season as a squad player, the likely cost of his wages wouldn’t be worthwhile given he’s not going to be sticking around beyond one or two years, and he could yet decline even further in that time anyway.
