Manchester United are set to host Southampton in the Premier League on Thursday evening.

BBC football pundit Chris Sutton has backed United to register a 2-0 win.

He told BBC Sport: “Southampton under Ivan Jurica are very different to the way they played under previous boss Russell Martin because most of the time they just lump it forward now, and they are far more direct.

“I still think United will find a way to win, but I am not so sure it will be a completely routine one.

“United have shown they can do that part, now they have to show their quality too.”

The Red Devils are high on confidence after earning a hard-fought draw against Liverpool and knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup.

Manager Ruben Amorim will hope that his players demonstrate the same passion against the Saints.

United were underdogs in the previous two games but they have to take all three points on Thursday.

They play at Old Trafford against a rock-bottomed league side.

The visitors made managerial changes last month and have scored the fewest goals in the English top flight this campaign.

The next step for the Red Devils is to take the game to their opponents and dominate with ball possession.

It will also be an opportunity for Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee who have failed to hit the ground running.

Strikers need goals to boost their confidence and they must seize their chance after two days.

If United can dominate the game and scoreline, Amorim may give a few of his stars a rest in the second half as they face Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

Amorim will also aim to keep a clean sheet.

United last kept a clean sheet on 1st December in the 4-0 win over Everton.

Since then, they have conceded goals in every game.
