The former Manchester United goalkeeper enjoyed a stellar campaign at the Select Car Leasing Stadium last season, ranking highly in League One in plenty of shot-stopping stats.

The Royals narrowly missed out on the play-offs last season, and optimism surrounding the club's next chapter is building, after Rob Couhig finally completed his takeover of the Berkshire club in early May.

The former Wycombe owner is keen to tie down some of his key players to new contracts, and Pereira is one of those who has been offered new terms.

However, reports from Dan Marsh of The Mirror suggest that Couhig's former club and Championship outfit Hull have also sent proposals to the 28-year-old, who is currently weighing up his options ahead of 2025/26.

Pereira has struggled to find a long-term home in his career, with plenty of loan moves away during his time at Manchester United, and only mustering five appearances in two years at RKC Waalwijk.

However, his fortunes turned last season as the 28-year-old managed to finally establish himself as Reading's clear number one goalkeeper, having struggled for minutes in his first season with the League One outfit.

After Couhig completed his takeover of the Berkshire-based outfit, ending Dai Yongge's nightmare tenure at the club, the American businessman was keen to lock down his key players to new contracts, and Pereira was one of those offered an extension to his stay.

The ex-Huddersfield Town keeper's current deal expires this summer, which has seen reports emerge from The Mirror that Hull and Wycombe have also offered terms to the Reading shot-stopper. Portuguese side Casa Pia are also said to be interested, but there's nothing to suggest they have also offered a deal.

Pereira is reportedly mulling over his next move, and could be tempted away by the prospect of Championship football with the Tigers. The Chairboys also offer him a local option to a club that has big aspirations in the near future.

Losing Joel Pereira would be a massive blow for Reading

It's wonderful to see Reading now having an owner who clearly cares for the club, and has a long-term vision to make them sustainable once again.

Many thought the Royals would be raided in the January transfer window, and whilst they did lose some key players, this prediction wasn't strictly true. Reading retained a strong core of players who almost made it into the play-offs.

Couhig has made his intentions clear this summer. The American wants to keep the core of his squad, whilst working on a tight budget to add a few new players to an already strong group.

Whilst the League One outfit managed to lock down star midfielder Lewis Wing to a new contract, losing their number one goalkeeper in Pereira would come as a massive blow to the Berkshire side.

The Portuguese shot-stopper has become a stalwart at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, and would likely be a key figure for Noel Hunt's side next season should he remain at the club.

However, losing him for free would be a big blow ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, especially if Pereira opts to join League One rivals Wycombe over Hull.
