Huddersfield Town striker Rhys Healey has been loaned out to League Two outfit Barrow AFC until January, after falling out of favour under new manager Lee Grant.

The Terriers have been very busy this summer as they look to right the wrongs of last season and gain promotion out of League One. This has seen a revamped front line headed by Alfie May at the forefront of operations.

However, the struggling Healey quickly found playing catch up after his most recent injury, as May, Joe Taylor and Dion Charles all sat ahead of him in the pecking order at the John Smith's Stadium.

The 30-year-old was subsequently sent out on loan to League Two side Barrow, in a move that seems to be the best-case scenario for all of those involved, but also somewhat of a surprise.

It was just a few years ago that Healey was smashing in goals for fun at Toulouse in France, but his return to England has been nothing short of a disaster, and he's failed to find form at both Watford and Huddersfield, and struggled with fitness at both clubs, with his £2 million move to the Accu Stadium simply not working out.

Rhys Healey's Huddersfield Town loan exit to Barrow hailed as the correct move

After the striker's temporary move to Holker Street was confirmed, Football League World quizzed their resident Huddersfield fan pundit, Graeme Rayner, about whether this was the right decision.

Graeme responded: "Yes, I think that sending Rhys Healey out on loan is the right decision.

"He clearly has a lot of ability. He's probably, in terms of ability, [a] Championship level striker. However, his fitness issues are very concerning.

"Rumour has it that we may have got to the bottom of them, and that his operation over the summer may well fix those issues, but the problem is he's got to prove that on the pitch with game-time, and he's unlikely to get the opportunity to prove that at Huddersfield.

"The most important thing for us is winning games and getting out of the division, so by sending him out on loan to Barrow until January, that gives him four months to realistically prove his fitness, [and] improve his fitness.

"If he's fit in League Two, he should score a hatful of goals. If he does that, then he can come back to us in January and help us get over the line hopefully in the second half of the season."

"If he doesn't [prove his fitness], then at least we know, so I think it is the right decision either way," Graeme concluded.

Lee Grant will see first-hand if Rhys Healey has a future at Huddersfield Town with his Barrow stint

Unfortunately, injury struggles have been the story of Healey's time back in England, which has seen him often unavailable for selection, and subsequently dropping down the pecking order.

However, after his operation, which could help the 30-year-old maintain his fitness, a loan is the perfect way to get him back up to speed with regular minutes, and offer him the chance to shine in a less pressuring environment, although dropping into League Two to Barrow may be seen as a surprise.

Barrow however train on a daily basis in Manchester instead of the actual town in Cumbria, and the other side of the Pennines isn't all that far from Huddersfield, and with the nature of competition in the Terriers squad currently, the striker would only feature sporadically in cup competitions, which isn't what he needs right now to get his career back on track.

All-in-all, this temporary move gives Healey the opportunity to prove himself to Grant, and show that he can still be a useful asset to Huddersfield now that his fitness issues are potentially behind him.
