FC Bayern will celebrate its 125h anniversary with 650 invited guests at Munich’s Nockherberg on the eve of 27 February, featuring key figures from the club’s history, as well as politics, sport and society. There will also be many more activities to mark the club’s milestone.
The celebrations were kicked off last Thursday with the launch of the special anniversary collection. Captain Manuel Neuer and his teammates will wear the coveted special jersey in their home game against Bochum at the Allianz Arena a week on Saturday. The women will wear the kit in their big match against Wolfsburg at the FC Bayern Campus on 14 March. For the first time, fans have the option of having this jersey printed with Franz Beckenbauer and the number 5. Club members decided at the annual general meeting in December that the club should dedicate the legendary number to the Kaiser’s memory and officially retire it.
The special anniversary illumination of the Allianz Arena will be visible on three days.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the Allianz Arena will shine in the evening hours with special animated illumination in the club colours of red and white. The FC Bayern Museum inside the stadium will be offering special guided tours of the founding years as well as the lecture “Between the studio and the pitch. The early years in Schwabing around 1900”. In addition, an original jersey from 1900 will be integrated into the exhibition in future. It really is a momentous find, as there are only a handful of jerseys of a similar age in Europe.
The Beckenbauer Cup on 17 March in the SAP Garden will be another highlight of the club's anniversary celebrations. The FC Bayern Legends will be coached by long-time captain and World Cup winner Philipp Lahm. Lothar Matthäus will in action against teams from Real Madrid, AC Milan, Ajax, VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund, while Bayern will see Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben work their magic side by side for the first time since the end of their playing careers.
FC Bayern is also honouring the milestone with numerous publications. The February issue of members' magazine ‘51’ is dedicated to the anniversary, and an English-language digital edition is being published for the first time for international fans, featuring the most interesting stories of the past few years. There is a new chronicle of 125 years of FC Bayern. And on the club's channels, fans can look forward to votes for their favourite game and favourite goal, take part in a video quiz or go on a journey through time together with club legends from different decades in a short film at the founding location, Café Gisela. Fan clubs and club members were also able to register for an exclusive anniversary get-together in the *1900 clubhouse at the FC Bayern Campus, where president Herbert Hainer and his two vice-presidents Professor Dr Dieter Mayer and Walter Mennekes as well as legend Raimond Aumann will be available for a chat.
