One of the main ways that clubs at Salford's level make money is through offloading some of their rising youngsters to higher-ranking clubs who can pay a decent fee for the potential that said player is showing.

The Ammies aren't a club that are necessarily short of money, especially with the new ownership group that's led by David Beckham and Gary Neville in charge of things, but it makes life much easier if they can get decent fees by selling on players.

Salford to receive six-figure fee from Liverpool transfer deal

Wright, 17, is arguably their best prospect. He has come through the club's academy system and attracted attention from last season's Premier League title contenders, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Ultimately, Arne Slot's side have won the race for the 17-year-old, with the transfer expected to be completed imminently after club-to-club and personal terms were agreed. This deal, according to Ben Jacobs, is set to earn Salford £200,000.

Arsenal actually offered them more, and were set to hijack the deal by offering that fee plus potential add-ons later down the line, according to The Athletic. However, they were never able to get Wright to agree to the personal terms that they were offering.

Wright's preference was to remain in and around the northwest, which the move from Greater Manchester to Merseyside allows him to do, and, according to Jacobs, he was sold on the vision that the Reds put forward to him in discussions.

It has also been reported by the GiveMeSport journalist that Liverpool's Head of Academy Recruitment, Chris Dowling, was key in getting Wright to agree to join them.

The striker gained attention while playing for Salford's B team. His goalscoring eventually earned him senior minutes last season under Karl Robinson, including his debut, which came at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City.

The Athletic have said that the feeling with Wright, and his development, is that his potential could be further unlocked by being in an elite environment, something that he hasn't experienced so far in his footballing life.

Salford will hope that Will Wright reaches superstar status as his move to Liverpool nears

As a club at Salford's level, it's always tough to see potential stars of the future leave before making an impact on the first-team. Any deal of this nature is likely to include a sell-on clause that the Ammies would stand to benefit from later down the line, but there has been no specific mention of any such details yet.

If Salford do have some future protection, they will hope that Wright goes on to be a huge success at Liverpool that can earn them some money later down the line. That's the sort of business that can help the club eventually achieve their goal of rising up through the ranks of the EFL.
