The 59-year-old is looking to reinvest in a Sky Bet Championship club, with the Sheffield Star reporting that the Owls are one of the clubs on his radar for potential investment.

He has been linked with takeovers of Everton and Watford in recent years, and has now left Palace whilst the club's concerns over UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules impacting their entry into the Europa League continues.

Football League World takes a look at what Textor's net worth is, and how that compares with current Wednesday owner, Dejphon Chansiri.

What is John Textor’s net worth?

John Textor has sold his shares at Selhurst Road for a reported £190 million, with the billionaire now eyeing a move that would give him ownership of a Championship club.

Textor has experience as owner of the Eagle Football Group, which boasts Brazilian side Botafogo, who are currently competing in the FIFA Club World Cup.

French giants Olympique Lyonnais, whose association has caused issues for Palace’s qualification for the Europa League, and Belgian side Daring Brussels are among the other clubs under the Eagles banner.

Textor made his fortune in digital media and entertainment, with a June report from I Do Business revealing that he has a current estimated net worth of at least $28 million.

However, they acknowledge that this is widely recognised as being a conservative figure, with his actual net worth likely being considerably higher when taking into account his private investments and current business holdings.

They claim his actual net worth may be closer to $75-100 million. Bloomberg noted his footballing empire was worth around £780 million before Lyon were added to the stable in December 2022.

Similarly to Textor, there is no concrete answer to the question of Chansiri’s net worth.

The Owls owner, who has led the club into a three-window transfer embargo after failing to pay wages on time last month, is closely linked to the Thai Union Group, of which he owns just below 1 per cent of shares in.

Forbes estimated in 2020 that the Chansiri family have a net worth of $575 million, with the Thai Union Group being the world's biggest producer of canned tuna.

Forbes also detailed that the Group had a revenue of $4.2 billion at that time.

Sheffield Wednesday fans have been consistently calling for Chansiri to sell the club over recent years, with off-field issues dominating. The recent failure to pay wages on time has seen the EFL strike down further punishment on the Owls, who are now in deep water with complicated player contract questions and the barring of signing new players.

Links to billionaire Textor are not alone in the batch of recent reports surrounding potential new ownership deals to replace Chansiri at Hillsborough, but the ex-Palace shareholder has buckets of sporting experience.

However, he may need to stump up a high asking price set by Chansiri if he does indeed wish to purchase the club, as despite it being understood that the club is seen to hold a fair market value of between £40-50m, a report from The Star has revealed that they've seen evidence of Chansiri himself claiming to have previously turned down bids worth up to £160m.
