The five-time UEFA Champions League winner has done some punditry work since his retirement from the game in 2023, but it now appears as though he is ready to properly step back into the world of football.

It was revealed last week that Bale is leading a consortium that made an approach to buy Cardiff City. The initial proposal was rejected, but it was reported that the 35-year-old's desire to complete a takeover of the club remains strong, as per David Ornstein.

Now, Bale has spoken about his intention to complete a takeover of the Bluebirds in an interview via talkSPORT.

"We would love to be a part of that Cardiff ownership and take Cardiff back where they belong," Bale said.

"It has always been Cardiff that we've been trying to get.

"Obviously, being from Cardiff, it is obviously where I was born, where I grew up. I'm very passionate.

"Obviously, I know how passionate the Wales fans and the Cardiff fans are, so it is an interesting time, an exciting time.

"Hopefully something can be done."

As Bale plots a takeover of Cardiff City, let's take a look at how the Welshman's net worth compares to current owner Vincent Tan's.

What is Gareth Bale's net worth?

Gareth Bale is one of the most recognisable ex-footballers in the world because of his successful spell at Real Madrid between 2013 and 2022, during which he lifted three LaLiga titles, five UEFA Champions League titles, three Club World Cup titles and a Copa del Rey title, amongst other honours.

He is also the most-capped player and all-time record scorer for the Welsh national team, with his goals having contributed to some memorable performances, with the most notable success being when he led his country to the semi-finals of Euro 2016.

Bale's career has enabled him to accumulate an impressive net worth, with Celebrity Net Worth claiming that he has a $145 million fortune, which equates to around £108 million.

When you consider that he is leading a group of potential investors in a bid to buy Cardiff City, there could well be some serious financial backing available if the consortium is successful in their attempts to complete a takeover.

However, in comparison, Malaysian businessman and investor Vincent Tan, who is the current owner of Cardiff, is worth $770 million according to Forbes in 2025, which works out at roughly £566 million.

It will be interesting to see whether Bale's consortium is able to purchase the club from Tan, who has been the owner since May 2010, as it would likely take a significant bid for his dream to become a reality, especially considering the 73-year-old's impressive wealth.

Taking over Cardiff would be a "dream" for Bale

Bale spoke about his interest in Cardiff during another interview with Sky Sports, during which he made it clear that owning the Bluebirds would be a "dream come true".

"It's my home club," Bale said.

"My uncle used to play for them, so to be involved with an ownership group would be a dream come true.

"I would love to be a part of growing Cardiff and taking it to the Premier League where it belongs."
