Villa's stance on selling the player and potentially loaning him out has become clearer after a recent report.

Aston Villa are not prepared to sell Louie Barry and are hoping to tie him down to a new contract instead, before potentially sending him out on loan.

This is according to the Daily Mail, who have reported that Celtic recently submitted a £5m bid for the player, with a further £5m in add-ons and a buy-back option.

French side Lens potentially improved on that offer by launching a £6m with similar add-ons included, but Villa are keen not to cash in on Barry just yet, despite deciding to sell several fringe players in recent years.

Cameron Archer, Aaron Ramsey and Jaden Philogene are no longer at the club, but Barry, who did extremely well at Stockport County during the first half of this season, is someone Unai Emery's side may decide to retain for the long term.

Establishing himself as a goalscoring machine in League One, a step up to the Championship for the second half of the season may benefit his development.

Aston Villa stance on Louie Barry amid Leeds, Sheffield United links

Villa are insistent that Barry won't be sold during the January window, according to the Daily Mail.

The same outlet have reported that manager Unai Emery is prepared to give the green light for the player to be offered a new deal, which could strengthen their negotiating position in the future.

A sale has not been considered, but Villa could potentially be open to loaning him out, which could be a real boost for some teams that are interested in him.

Leeds United are one team that have been linked with him - and Elland Road could be a good destination for the player - who may be keen to be involved in another promotion race.

But whether Daniel Farke's team launch a loan bid for him in the coming weeks remains to be seen.

According to a report from the Sheffield Star, Sheffield United also remain interested in securing a deal for the player.

Leeds United and Sheffield United should continue Louie Barry pursuit

Barry could be a very good attacking midfielder or wide forward for Leeds and the Blades.

The Whites may have some good attacking options at their disposal, but they don't have the strongest striker department at this stage, with Patrick Bamford injured and Joe Gelhardrt securing a loan exit.

With this in mind, recruiting a goalscorer like Barry could end up paying dividends for them.

The Blades could also benefit hugely from Barry.

It feels like Chris Wilder's side could do with adding another couple of wide options to their squad - and the Villa man could make a real difference with Jesurun Rak-Sakyi on the other side.
