‘He’s a Neymar regen’ – Tottenham’s Djed Spence on ‘generational’ Désiré Doué | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur fullback Djed Spence (24) was full of praise for his former Stade Rennais teammate Désiré Doué (19) during an interview with Rio Ferdinand Presents.

The two players trained together at Rennes during Spence’s six-month loan spell at the tail end of the 2022/2023 season. Despite the short time they worked together, the French teenager left an impression on Spence.

When asked about some of the best players that Spence has played with, the Tottenham player highlighted Doué and compared him favourably to Neymar. The fullback stated, “He’s generational. He reminds me of Neymar… [He’s] Neymar-esque, a regen.”

‘Desiré Doué is going to be something crazy’

He continued, “When I trained with him at Rennes, I thought, ‘Who’s this guy? Yeah, this guy is is going to be something crazy.’ And he’s doing it now at Paris Saint-Germain.” Over the summer, PSG won the race for the teenager, beating competition from the likes of Bayern Munich for his signature.

It’s a move that’s proving to be very successful for Doué, who has scored seven and assisted 11 for his new club. His performances in the capital also earned him a first-call up to Didier Deschamps’s France team, and he made his debut off the bench against Croatia on Sunday night.
