Lauren Hemp has been voted 2024 Football Supporters’ Association Women’s Player of the Year.

Manchester City’s skilful winger has been recognised for her stellar performances over the last 12 months winning the fan vote at the largest support-led awards’ annual ceremony.

The FSA awards have been running in their current guise since 2011 and celebrates individual and collective performances on and off the pitch.

Hemp has enjoyed a fantastic calendar year which helped Gareth Taylor’s side match our best-ever Barclays Women’s Super League points tally last term – although we were pipped to the title on goal difference.

In 2023/24, she registered 12 goals and registered nine assists which included a swathe of vital displays as we relentlessly battled for the championship and qualified for the Champions League.

For example, Hemp scored and provided Mary Fowler’s strike in our final day 2-1 win over Aston Villa which extended her run of collecting a goal involvement to five straight matches at the end of the term.

And she has since carried that momentum into the 2024/25 campaign, stamping her authority on the division and becoming one of the WSL standout performances so far this season.

Before sustaining a knee injury in early December, the England international had registered five assists in seven league outings – the current most across the division.

When factoring in her two WSL goals so far, too, she averages a goal involvement every game.

Speaking after collecting the Women’s Player of the Year award she said: “Hi everyone, I just wanted to say a massive thank you for this award.

“I’m really sorry I can’t be there. I want to thank everyone so much for all your votes. Looking back on the season we were unfortunate to come so narrowly close to winning the league, but unfortunately we didn’t.

“But we qualified for the Champions League and have now reached the knockout stages this season. We have an important back end of the season coming up and I can’t wait for so many trophies, hopefully, coming our way.

“Hope you have a great evening and thank you so much for the award.”

Hemp beat City team-mate Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, Chelsea’s Lauren James and Erin Cuthbert, Grace Cuthbert (Manchester United) and Arsenal’s Lotte Wubben-Moy to the award.

Congratulations Lauren on being named 2024 Football Supporters’ Association Women’s Player of the Year!
