Despite the Reds jetting off on yacht trips, the season isn’t over yet – but transfer news is already rife in Liverpool’s camp.

The strongest rumour yet is the one of Jeremie Frimpong, Bayer Leverkusen’s right back, who is seemingly the best replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Christopher Jullien, now centre half for Ligue 1 side Montpellier, spent 29 games alongside Frimpong at Celtic and found the Dutchman a positive influence on the side and never felt defensively vulnerable despite his offensive mindset.

With talks rapidly advancing between the Liverpool and Leverkusen camps, Dan Clubbe spoke with Jullien to get a better understanding of Frimpong’s impact at Celtic and whether this move will work for the player.

“HE ONLY HAS ONE SETTING” – SCOTTISH FOOTBALL EXPERT ON LIVERPOOL LINKED JEREMIE FRIMPONG

On his arrival at Celtic:

“I arrived a little bit in front of him, but when he arrived, he was just not a shy guy, and I think that’s what made him the guy that he is today.

“I think the strength that he has today is from that, sometimes to just not be shy, just taking the stuff that is in front of him.

“I think he was playing with the Manchester City second team. We had the training on our training facilities, and he had the game with Manchester City against Celtic, the B team, on the field below.

“After our training ,we went there, watched the game, and he really impressed from his quality.

“Two days after, he signed with us.

“In Celtic, we had a lot of internationals, so he came directly with us, and he just showed the ability that he has, all the strength that he had, and in training, he was just really focused.

“Since the day he arrived in Celtic, he wanted to show his ability.”

On Frimpong’s personality:

“We know the player and the person that he is outside of football is just something else, like joy, everything that is positive from a player, the energy that he’s bringing.

“When he was on the field, he was just someone interested in the game, really focusing on the game, working on it.

“Sometimes he had some little joke, of course.”

On his playing style:

“A lot of people are saying [about] his passes, [that] he’s really focused on the offence and stuff like that, but his speed just makes him so good in everything that he does.

“Sometimes, even if he sees something a little bit late, his speed, his reaction, is going to make him correct so much stuff.

“The beginning of the season, we were kind of like playing as a back four… I remember we kind of changed our style of playing, and we played five in the back because we saw how powerful he was on the side.

“The thing I really like is that sometimes he knew that he was just so fast, he knows how fast he is, so sometimes he was just not doing a lot of dribbling – just like a simple dribble, inside, outside, push, – and it was just so efficient.

“He was just something else.

“What he brought us on the field was only positive vibes. I can’t remember when he came on the field, but we had some struggles defensively.

“The left side of the opponent was really, really tough for them.

“We’d been using him in the team in so many areas – defensively, offensively – but offensively …that was something else.

“There were a lot of situations where he could have had a lot more goals.”

On where Frimpong ranks among the players Jullien has played with:

“He is 100% the best right back that I’ve played with.

“His story of how he came and now is in this position it makes it even better.”

On if Liverpool is a good move:

“I can imagine if this move happened for him, I would be really happy for him because again, I think he’s going to be close to a situation like he was in Celtic, and he’s going to be part of something pretty.

“When he was in Celtic, everything that he’s been through has made him a better player. Now he leaves Leverkusen a better one.

“I think it’s made him ready for it.

“I think it’s a great move for him, but for Liverpool too, because I think now that Trent is leaving, I think this position can be something else for him and for the club that will be really good.”

Redmen Reacts

Jullien acknowledged a lot of apprehension from fans on the defensive worries of the new signing, but his confidence in Frimpong is evident and has ultimately made the signing even more exciting.

From what we’ve seen on social media already, his personality alone shows he is a great fit for the Reds, and his pace and recovery ability will only make him more at home.

The sooner we can get this player to the AXA and settled under Slot’s leadership, the better.
