Real Madrid are looking for their first victory of the 2025 Club World Cup when they take on Pachuca in Charlotte. Los Blancos hope to bounce back from a disappointing 1-1 against Al Hilal in their opening match, but with the Mexicans much sharper due to being in the middle of their domestic season, it will not be easy to secure the much-needed three points.

Xabi Alonso looks ahead of Real Madrid-Pachuca

As per Diario AS, Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso spoke on the test during his pre-match press conference. He made it clear that improvements are needed from the opening day draw against Al Hilal.

“It’s an intense match, we want to win, it’s a short competition. We have to be with better feelings, we want a more complete game with the ball and without the ball.

“The first half was not good, the second was better, we were more dominant. It is the thread by which we have pulled and also that of what we do not want, what is repeated. Sometimes wanting to do so much quickly is counterproductive. Prioritising is important.”

Alonso gives updates on Antonio Rudiger, Kylian Mbappe

Alonso also confirmed that return of Antonio Rudiger, who has been out since April after undergoing surgery on a problematic knee issue.

“Antonio has been discharged. He has to be eased back gradually. The rest of the squad has not changed too much.”

The matchday squad list also confirmed that Kylian Mbappe remains absent, with the France international having also missed the Al Hilal draw. Alonso provided an update, during which he expressed confidence at having the striker back very soon.

“He is better, he returned from the hospital and is recovering. We are optimistic of having him against Salzburg.”

Real Madrid must win in order to kick-start their Club World Cup campaign, and Alonso knows that a much better all-round performance is needed in Charlotte.
