Former Tottenham Hotspur star Jamie O’Hara was pleased with what he saw from one Spurs star against Coventry City on Wednesday night.
Ange Postecoglou made a host of changes for the EFL Cup tie at Coventry and almost paid the price for it as his side trailed 1-0 with just minutes left.
Spurs had late goals from Djed Spence and substitute Brennan Johnson to thank for being able to record a 2-1 win and progress in the competition.
Spence was introduced at half time by Postecoglou in place of Destiny Udogie and O’Hara was pleased with what he saw from the full-back.
He said post match on talkSPORT’s Sports Bar: “I thought Djed Spence came on and did really well.
“He played in midfield.
“He can play.”
Spence had been expected to move on during the summer transfer window as Genoa, where he spent the second half of last season on loan, held talks with Spurs to sign him on a permanent basis.
The Italians though found a deal for Spence to be financially out of reach and he stayed put in north London.
Spence, who faced question marks over his attitude while on loan at Leeds United, will hope his display at Coventry leads to more opportunities under Postecoglou in the coming weeks.
O’Hara also questioned Postecoglou making so many changes to the side on the back of a derby loss to Arsenal.
“When you are struggling after a bad result at the weekend, you think should he have gone a little stronger? But he gets away with it tonight”, he added.
