Former Blue Carlton Cole believes Pedro Neto can finish the season strongly after his goal against Fulham on Sunday.

The Portugal international scored a brilliant last gasp winner to keep Chelsea’s hopes of Champions League football alive.

The Blues are still in the mix and are currently two points behind Newcastle in fifth, with just five games of the season remaining.

Cole claims Neto winner should give him boost

The win against Fulham was huge for both the players and Enzo Maresca, with things in danger of turning toxic had Chelsea slipped to another defeat.

Neto was the match winner and it’s been a challenging first season for the winger following his £51.4m move from Wolves last summer.

The goal against Fulham was just his fourth of the season in the league, and Chelsea will be looking for much more output in the next campaign.

Former Chelsea striker Cole has claimed Neto’s goal will give the Portuguese the boost he needs after a challenging first season.

“Neto, he hasn’t had the best of starts to his Chelsea career just yet,” he told The Dressing Room Podcast.

“That [goal] will give him a lovely boost. I know it’s his first season, but at the same time he needs that extra boost.”

Neto has scored six goals in all competitions, whilst he’s also registered seven assists, which would be more if Chelsea had a striker with box presence.

Chelsea would have expected more from Neto, but he’s managed to stay injury free which is a huge boost given his concerning injury record at Wolves.

The Portuguese has made 39 appearances in all competitions and will have a key role to play in the final few games as Chelsea aim to qualify for the Champions League and get their hands on the Conference League trophy, whilst he’s also highlighted the importance of the fans.
