Manchester City have long been linked with a summer move for Florian Wirtz. The Bayer Leverkusen playmaker looks to be the ideal player to add creativity to City’s midfield this summer. But the possibility does exist that City could miss out on signing Wirtz this summer. If that was to eventuate City would have to look elsewhere to add creativity to their midfield. Firstly, a new report from BILD indicates that Wirtz prefers a move to Bayern Munich. Secondly, a new report has suggested that Manchester City could move for Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincao this summer. Perhaps Trincao could be an alternative to Florian Wirtz if City miss out on the German international.
German publication BILD has reported that Florian Wirtz has informed Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso that he only wants to move to Bayern Munich this summer. Furthermore, Bild has reported that Bayer Leverkusen bosses are yet to be made aware of Wirtz’s decision. It is also reported by BILD that Wirtz does not want to move to Real Madrid or Manchester City this summer. Interestingly, Sky Germany reporter Marlon Irlbacher tweeted the following response to BILD’s report.
Ahad Shaukat has reported for CaughtOffside that Manchester City have an interest in signing Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincao. Furthermore, Shaukat reports that City’s potential move for Trincao is heavily influenced by Hugo Viana. Lastly, Shaukat reports that Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle United, Juventus and Barcelona have an interest in signing Trincao this summer.
Francisco Trincao is a completely different type of player from Florian Wirtz. Typically, Trincao operates on the right wing. With his dribbling ability and eye for a pass, Trincao could add creativity to Pep Guardiola’s squad. But he’d be more a winger than a player who can add creativity to City’s midfield. Although, Trincao can operate as a shadow striker of sorts, which is a role he has played on occasion for Sporting CP this season. In statistics sourced from tranfermarkt.com, he has primarily played on the right wing this season. But when needed, he has played behind a frontman on other occasions.
Perhaps, if Manchester City cannot sign Florian Wirtz they could look at Francisco Trincao as an alternative. But he’d likely be an option to play on a wing rather than in midfield in Pep Guardiola’s side. So perhaps City will look elsewhere to add creativity to their midfield if they cannot land Florian Wirtz this summer.
