FC Barcelona players have already returned from their Christmas break and are now once again training under Hansi Flick. More precisely, the German coach will be looking to get his team in shape for their opening match of Copa del Rey, in which they are set to face the third-division side UD Barbastro tomorrow.

Given that the opposing team is from a lower league, Flick will likely look to rest some of his key starters, especially with the demanding month of January looming for his team.

Thus, this match will be a good opportunity for some of the substitutes and fringe players to get some playing time and show their skills and abilities on the pitch.

However, as Mundo Deportivo has noted, the one position where Flick will have to make a difficult decision will be that of the goalkeeper, as the goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny, who is yet to make his debut with Barcelona since his signing a few months ago, will be particularly looking forward to this game with hopes of making his debut.

The Pole was signed by the Blaugrana side after Marc-André ter Stegen’s serious injury, as they wanted an experienced option to be available as a substitute for Iñaki Peña.

However, the Spaniard has not given any cause for Flick to get him out of his starting eleven since ter Stegen’s injury, and thus, Szczęsny has not been able to play since coming out of retirement.

The German tactician was clear that Peña would play ahead of him when the Polish veteran was signed, but it remains to be seen whether his statement was limited to La Liga and UEFA Champions League matches, or whether this is going to hold true for Copa del Rey games as well.
