Hamann Tips Frimpong as Ideal Liverpool Fit if Alexander-Arnold Departs

Alexander-Arnold Uncertainty Looms Over Anfield

When it comes to Liverpool, nothing stirs unease like the whisper of a star player leaving. And now, the anxiety around Trent Alexander-Arnold is starting to feel more real than rumour. The Scouser’s contract is ticking down and, as murmurs grow louder about interest from Real Madrid, his future feels increasingly uncertain.

No declarations, no statements, no assurances. Just the persistent buzz of a potential farewell. While some hold on to hope that Alexander-Arnold will recommit to the club where he became world-class, others are already glancing toward what comes next.

Frimpong the Front-Runner?

Didi Hamann, never one to mince words, believes Jeremie Frimpong is the natural heir should Alexander-Arnold pack his bags. Speaking to Poker Scout, the former midfielder said: “I was surprised that no one signed Jeremie Frimpong last summer for around £40million. There was an option and nobody took it, but he’s a brilliant player.”

It’s a compelling endorsement, and Hamann makes the case with clarity: “He has lots of pace, he scores and sets up goals, he’s a very modern player and he would do a great job in the Premier League. He’s more of a wing-back than a full-back, but he would be a great player for Liverpool to have.”

Slot’s system – still largely theoretical – will demand full-backs who can offer thrust and guile. In Frimpong, the Reds would get both.

Conor Bradley and Squad Depth Questions

Of course, Conor Bradley remains a promising option. But as Hamann rightly points out, the 21-year-old’s injury record raises questions about relying solely on him. Frimpong, in contrast, is battle-tested in Europe and a regular in Xabi Alonso’s title-winning Bayer Leverkusen side.

And he’s not just energy and overlapping runs. Frimpong’s numbers this season speak for themselves: four goals and 11 assists in 43 appearances. That’s output many wingers would envy, let alone a right-back.

“He’d give another option outside of Mohamed Salah who likes to cut in on his left foot,” added Hamann. “Every team needs pace and he has certainly got it.”

Familiar Roots, Fresh Potential

Born in Amsterdam, raised in England, developed in Manchester City’s academy and polished in Germany — Frimpong’s journey feels tailor-made for a return to the Premier League. His deal with Leverkusen runs until 2028, but Liverpool know as well as anyone: contracts are merely leverage, not locks.

If Alexander-Arnold leaves, replacing his vision, passing range and local connection is almost impossible. But in Frimpong, Liverpool may find a player who offers a different brand of brilliance — less architect, more accelerator.
