Sunderland have confirmed the news that goalkeeper Claudia Moan has left the club upon the expiry of her contract.

The Lady Black Cats announced Moan’s departure via a post on their official club X account this morning.

Moan joined Sunderland as a young player within their Regional Talent Club (RTC) five years ago. The keeper successfully graduated from the youth system and she has become a key member of Sunderland manager Melanie Reay’s first team squad. The 25-year-old was a member of the Sunderland team that successfully fought for promotion back to the Barclays Women’s Championship and she has gone on to make 56 appearances for the Wearside club in the second tier.

The player enjoyed her most successful season to date in a Sunderland shirt in 2023/2024. Moan was an ever-present for the club in the Barclays Women’s Championship. She kept 10 clean sheets in 22 league outings as she ended the campaign with the Barclays Women’s Championship’s Golden Glove award. Moan secured the accolade with a clean sheet against champions Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on the final day of the season.

Given Moan’s form in the last 12 months, she will not be short of admirers and it has now been revealed that she will be taking up a fresh challenge in 2024/2025. The player leaves Sunderland with the club’s best wishes.
