Manchester City’s long-standing first-choice goalkeeper Ederson has a ‘strong possibility’ of departing the Etihad Stadium in the upcoming summer market.
The 31-year-old was the subject of strong transfer interest during the last major window in the closed-season, only for the Premier League champions to stand firm on a valuation they deemed fair for a player of the Brazilian’s stature.
A regular Brazil international holding down a starting place for his country and still very much Pep Guardiola’s go-to option between the sticks at Manchester City, club officials felt the goalkeeper worthy of a £50 million fee from any potential suitor.
Despite the vast wealth available to many of the clubs starring in the disruptive Middle-East league, the likes of Al-Nassr decided not to escalate their interest and proposals to Manchester City, with the highest bid from a club believed to be around the £30 million mark.
And while Ederson has seen yet more flashes of ultimate brilliance at the Etihad Stadium this season, further emphasising why he is the perfect player for the goalkeeper position in a Pep Guardiola side, it appears as though his future is far from settled.
That is according to the information of Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, who confirms that the Manchester City number one goalkeeper has a ‘strong possibility’ of joining a Saudi Pro League club in the upcoming summer transfer window.
It remains to be seen just how much Manchester City would demand for Ederson this time around, particularly off the back of a mixed season in terms of performances and the Brazil international being one year older.
Options to replace the star between the posts also remain somewhat unknown at this stage, although there have been tenuous links between the Etihad club and shot-stoppers in Italy, as well as FC Porto and Portugal star Diogo Costa.
City have a strong and friendly working relationship in place with the Portuguese club too, recently revitalised and strengthened through the business completed on deadline day that saw Nico Gonzalez make the switch to Manchester from the Estádio do Dragão.
