Aleksandar Mitrovic has been linked with a return to English football with Birmingham City.

Speaking on Talksport, journalist Alex Crook has mentioned the Blues as a possible destination for the Serbian before the summer window closes.

The 30-year-old has spent the last two seasons competing in Saudi Arabia with Al-Hilal, where he has contributed 47 goals and seven assists from 51 league appearances.

Mitrovic’s last stint in the Championship saw him score 43 times for Fulham during the 2021/22 campaign, helping the Cottagers earn promotion to the Premier League in the process.

When asked about the prospect of signing Mitrovic, FLW’s Birmingham fan pundit Jason Moore claimed that the club will win the Championship title if this deal gets over the line.

He has no concerns over the possible cost of the move, urging the Midlands outfit to bring the striker to St. Andrew’s.

“If we were to pull off the signing of Aleksandar Mitrovic, with the stupid squad we’ve got already, with the additions we’re probably still going to make, with Mitrovic into all of that squad, genuinely I think, hand on heart, you might as well give us the title now!” Moore told Football League World.

“I genuinely mean that, that would be absolutely stupid.

“I genuinely seen some Blues fans saying ‘no, don’t get him, he’s going to be on stupid money,’ who cares? If the club want to go and fork out whatever they want on Mitrovic, go and get him.

“The man scored 43 goals last time he was in the Championship, that is ridiculous.

“And he’s only 30, go and get him.

“I’ll fly over to Saudi and I’ll go and get him myself, that’s how badly I’d take Mitrovic in the Championship.

“What a joke that’d be, what a joke of a team we’d be.

“Genuinely, if we get Mitrovic, give us the Championship title and put us in the Prem.”

Up next for Birmingham is a home clash against Oxford United on 23 August in a 3pm kick-off.

Mitrovic signing would be ambitious by Birmingham

Birmingham’s owners have expressed a great ambition in the last year or so, but bringing in Mitrovic would be a real statement signing.

The potential cost is a concern, particularly as the forward will want big wages and is now into his 30s.

It would have a great immediate impact on the team, and the cost might be worthwhile if he does power the team to the Premier League.

His record of 43 goals for Fulham at this level is a mouthwatering prospect for supporters, and there’s every possibility he will repeat that level again, so it has the potential to be quite a dangerous addition.
