Gio Reyna was happy to open his goalscoring account for the season, but lamented Borussia Dortmund's failure to get the three points against Hoffenheim on Sunday.
Borussia Dortmund failed to win at home in the Bundesliga for the first time this season on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by TSG Hoffenheiml. The Black and yellows looked well off the pace after the gruelling test against FC Barcelona earlier in the week, and dropped two crucial points in the race to finish in the top four.
Despite the draw, there was one big positive for Borussia Dortmund in the fact that Gio Reyna scored his first goal of the season and showcased glimpses of his potential after months of injury struggles.
Reyna scored with a fantastic finish from the edge of the box, expertly finding the top corner after Hoffenheim failed to clear their lines. After the game, the USMNT international reflected on his goal on what was his second start of the week and the season so far.
"It feels good to score a goal - but not winning is more disappointing! It was a tough game against an opponent we knew what they were capable of. Unfortunately, we weren't good enough . The game will still hurt us tomorrow," Reyna told BVB-TV after the game.
The 22 year old recently made his return from a serious injury and will now hope to cement his place in the Borussia Dortmund starting XI. Gio Reyna has made a total of seven appearances for BVB this season, and has one goal to his name.
