Gillingham have made a "good offer" of a new contract to Dom Jefferies, amid transfer interest from Millwall, according to the League Two club's owner Brad Galinson, who has admitted that the midfielder must do what is right for himself.

Jefferies joined Gillingham back in the summer of 2022, signing on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Premier League side Brentford.

Since then, the 22-year-old has, despite some recent injury issues, been an important player for the Gills since making the move to Priestfield.

In total, Jefferies has made 71 appearances in all competitions for Gillingham, scoring two goals and providing three assists in that time.

However, the midfielder is now facing a somewhat uncertain future at the club, amid interest from elsewhere.

Brad Galinson gives Dom Jefferies contract update

Last month, Football League World exclusively revealed that Championship side Millwall, along with Scottish Premiership club Hiberian and Hugarian outfit Fehervar, are keen to sign Jefferies.

As things stand, the midfielder's contract with Gillingham is set to expire this summer, meaning he is available on a free transfer as things stand, amid that interest from elsewhere.

However, the Gills confirmed in their end of season retained list that the 22-year-old has been offered a new deal to extend his stay at Priestfield.

Now it seems as though Galinson is pleased with the contract they have offered to the midfielder, although he is aware that Jefferies has to make his own decision about his future.

While taking part in a QandA session on the club's X account, Galinson was asked about the latest on the situation with Jefferies.

Responding to that question, the Gillingham owner and chairman said: "We love Dom. We've made him a good offer, but he needs to do what's best for him."

Last season, the Gills finished 12th in the League Two table, six points adrift of the play-off places.

Millwall meanwhile, claimed a 13th place finish in the Championship, having climbed clear of the relegation zone after the return of Neil Harris for a second spell as manager.

Harris had previously been in charge of Gillingham when they signed Jefferies in June 2022, remaining in charge of the club until departing in October last year.

Dom Jefferies update will interest linked clubs

It does feel as though these comments from Galinson may catch the attention of some of the clubs interested in a deal to sign Jefferies.

Judging by what he is saying, it appears as though the Gillingham owner feels they have made a strong case to the midfielder to convince him to stay at Priestfield.

However, it also appears as though he is aware that there is no guarantee that Jefferies will be staying at the club over the course of this summer, if the player believes he is better off moving on.

That could therefore open the door for the likes of Millwall to push their own case for the signing of the 22-year-old, as they look to strengthen their own squad this summer.

Indeed, the chance to reunite with Harris and make the step-up to the Championship means that a move to The Den could well be an appealing one for him.

With all that in mind, it therefore seems as though the situation with Jefferies, is going to be well worth keeping an eye on in the coming weeks.
