Genoa CEO Andres Blasquez feels that Inter Milan are signing goalkeeper Josep Martinez for a bargain fee this summer.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TeleNord, via FCInterNews, the Grifone executive admitted that he feels that his club are selling the 26-year-old for less than he’s truly worth.

Inter are close to signing former RB Leipzig and Las Palmas keeper Martinez from Genoa.

The Nerazzurri have been in negotiations with the Ligurian club for a couple weeks now.

Martinez is the player who Inter have identified as their long-term solution in goal.

The Nerazzurri had initially been looking to sign Athletico Paranaense’s Bento.

Inter also eyed up Udinese’s Maduka Okoye and Lazio’s Christos Mandas from within Serie A. And Villarreal keeper Filip Jorgensen is another player whose agent they contact with.

But it is Martinez who Inter are getting a deal over the line for.

Initially, Inter and Genoa had been discussing a possible player-plus-cash deal. But instead it will just be a straight transfer fee.

Reportedly Inter will pay Genoa around €13 million for Martinez, with an additional €2 million in add-ons.

Genoa’s CEO Blasquez was asked if he considers €15 million a fair price for Martinez.

“I think our goalkeeper is worth more than that,” he admitted.

“But sometimes, it doesn’t just depend on us.”

“We’re not a prison,” Blasquez said of allowing big name players to leave the Marassi.

“I understand that players have short career windows. And if a player like Dragusin, for instance, tells us that he wants to have an experience abroad where he can earn more, I can’t stand in his way.”

“If a player comes to Genoa, he’ll always be happy here. Knowing that he can build his career here as much as anywhere else.”
