GdS: Two exits to fund €40m move – Milan’s current plan to strengthen the attack

The AC Milan management are working hard on making moves to improve the squad in January, and two exits could help launch a bid for Santiago Gimenez.

As this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport reports, the departures – or rather the departure formula – will determine the moves that Milan can make. Kyle Walker’s arrival is almost complete, so the priority now is to shore up the attack.

Priorities and alternatives

The first option is Gimenez of Feyenoord, if the permanent sale of Pavlovic were to materialise. The Rossoneri already wanted the Mexican striker last summer before turning to Abraham, and they are trying again.

The Dutch club do not want to sell mid-season and want €40m. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada have received the green light from the player (who has an EU passport) because he wants to compete in Serie A to grow.

The negotiation is not easy, but the directors intend to try with great conviction if they sell the Serbian defender, for a written offer has arrived from Turkey. If there is no money to invest, a reinforcement for the attack will have to arrive on loan.

The main option remains Joao Felix in this sense and it could happen in the last few days of the window with the help of Jorge Mendes. However, the Blues need to still have a free slot for a loan abroad.

Alternatively, watch out for what happens in Manchester because United must respect the rules of Financial Fair Play. They are working towards a big sale (Garnacho and Casemiro candidates) to then try sign a striker like Gyokeres or Cunha.

Their arrival would free up Rasmus Hojlund or Joshua Zirkzee to potentially depart in the closing stages of the window, with a loan for the former something that the Diavolo are keeping in mind.

Emerson and Pavlovic

Emerson Royal is being courted by Galatasaray, having arrived just a few months ago from Spurs for €15m. The right-back has not closed the door on a transfer to Turkey, but the formula of a loan with option to buy must be worked on.

Fulham have also asked for information, but for a permanent deal. The problem? They have put a figure on the table (around €10m) that would force Milan to make a capital loss on the balance sheet. The Brazilian, who will lose his starting spot to Walker, is seriously considering a transfer to Istanbul.

The situation is different for Pavlovic who, despite having been barely used since October, still has requests. Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce have sent Milan an offer of around €20m plus bonuses. It remains to be seen whether the Serbian will say yes, because an English and German team are keen.

An auction would not displease Milan who – after Fikayo Tomori said no to Juventus – will hold on to the Englishman. Pavlovic’s future, as mentioned, is linked to the assault on Santiago Gimenez or the need to hunt for a striker on loan.

Also worth noting is Real Betis’ interest in Samuel Chukwueze, but the proposal formulated to Milan by the Spaniards (loan) is far from the Rossoneri’s requests.
