AC Milan will close out the first phase of the Champions League tonight against Dinamo Zagreb, knowing it is a ‘win and in’ type situation.
Last week’s victory at San Siro against Girona saw Milan climb into sixth spot in the league, and now the equation is a simple one: win in the Croatian capital to directly qualify for the last 16 of the competition.
The right-back role is an issue for Sergio Conceicao, as Davide Calabria will serve a one-game suspension, while Emerson Royal is out for at least two months. Kyle Walker hasn’t been registered yet and Alex Jimenez isn’t in the Champions League squad.
Alessandro Florenzi remains out as he continues to record from a long-term injury, with Malick Thiaw not ready to return just yet. Finally, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is not available either.
According to La Gazzetta, it will be Mike Maignan in goal with Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic at centre-back. Theo Hernandez will be left-back, and the surprise is Fikayo Tomori at right-back over Filippo Terracciano.
A midfield three of Yunus Musah, Youssouf Fofana (suspended for Sunday’s derby) and Tijjani Reijnders is expected. Christian Pulisic, Alvaro Morata and Rafael Leao should be the front three.
Fabio Cannavaro has stated his belief that Milan have ‘problems’ and he is expected to go with a 4-1-4-1 to try expose them. Kulenovic the top scorer will lead the line.
Predicted Milan XI (4-3-3): Maignan; Tomori, Gabbia, Pavlovic, Theo Hernandez; Musah, Fofana, Reijnders; Pulisic, Morata, Leao.
Predicted Dinamo Zagreb XI (5-4-1): Nevistic; Ristovski, Mmaee, Torrente, Franjic; Ademi; Stojkovic, Rog, Baturina, Pjaca; Kulenovic.
