GdS: Positive form, difficult night – Milan’s attack goes missing against Juventus

The lack of clear chances created and shots on target tells the story perfectly: AC Milan were let down by their attack in the game against Juventus.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport recall, Milan could have had some confidence going into the game given that Alvaro Morata was facing his old club (usually a stimulus), while Rafael Leao and Tijjani Reijnders are both in excellent form.

Christian Pulisic has started this season brilliantly and even though he didn’t start, he joined the likes of Samuel Chukwueze, Tammy Abraham and Francesco Camarda in being options to come off the bench. In the end, nobody stepped up

Just as you defend as a team, the same happens when you attack. Milan did a good job keeping the door closed against Juve but they were incapable of testing Di Gregorio at the other end. The Bianconeri have a great defensive record, yet conceded four to Inter and had injuries to battle.

The jeers from the fans at the end of the match perfectly certify the feeling of this being an incomplete and inconsistent team. The one that skipped through Inter and Real Madrid at will were halted by Federico Gatti, Pierre Kalulu (on loan from Milan) and a 21-year-old Nicolo Savona.

Leao had a few bursts including one into the box where he went down asking for a penalty, Reijnders tried to move between the lines as he likes but found little space, and Pulisic was a big loss in the starting XI but came on and didn’t provide the end product hoped for.

Milan shot towards Di Gregorio five times in the entire match, only once on target, in the 95th minute. The cross numbers are interesting: 16 (versus three for the Bianconeri). Didn’t Fonseca want a team that plays good football?
