Mike Maignan currently has a much better chance of renewing his contract with AC Milan than Theo Hernandez does, a report claims.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the situations relating to Theo and Mike ‘are not alike’. The pair do start from the same basis though: they have a contract running until 2026, and they do not yet have an agreement with Milan to extend it.
The similarities end there though, because Maignan today ‘has a much better chance of having a medium and long-term future with Milan’. Talks have been ongoing for months with the goalkeeper, and though a deal is not done it is ‘a long way’ towards it.
Maignan and the management duo Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada have outlined a contract structure and one piece of information can be given: if there is a renewal, there will be no release clause.
Hernandez, on the other hand, is clearly going through a difficult period, both because of off-field matters but also because his performance levels have not been as high as usual. Also for this reason, his renewal is further from the finish line.
Theo would be happy to stay at Milan but the negotiations with the club in the last few months have not made any particular progress. Clubs are taking note: Bayern Munich above all, while in the Premier League there are many potentially interested teams.
