In the past few days, AC Milan have seemingly elected their preferred candidate to move the club forward after Stefano Pioli departs. However, with the manager still under contract, talks will be started to ensure he can move to Milano.

Whilst the news has not been officially confirmed, Pioli will depart the club, and he seems resigned to this fact himself. However, this is not a new prospect that has suddenly appeared. The risk of the sack has been looming for years. However, this season, the cries for the end of the Pioli era have been louder and more frequent than ever before.

A change has not been officially made, but reports have suggested that the 58-year-old has been in talks with Napoli, and Milan have been in contact with several coaches but may have found the man to lead them into a new era.

His name? Sergio Conceicao.

Following the Lopetegui debacle, there has been a steady rise in his stock until this weekend, when it seemed increasingly likely that the next steps would begin to be taken. However, there is an obstacle in the way – he is still under contract with Porto.

As Gazzetta dello Sport (read below) states, to overcome this, a meeting has been booked with Andre Villas-Boas – the new president of the club – to discuss their futures. Villas-Boas wants continuation, but Conceicao has his heart set on Milano, and with his agent, Jorge Mendes, pushing for the move as well, it seems likely it could happen.
