Galatasaray: Victor Osimhen opens his account for the season in the Super Lig
Victor Osimhen scored his first goal of the 2024-25 season with Galatasaray. The Nigerian striker found the net during his team's emphatic victory over Kayserispor (4-0) on Sunday, August 24, 2025. This performance allows the Istanbul side to keep their perfect record alive.
The Super Eagles forward took full advantage of his first start of the season to get off the mark. Osimhen had played 30 minutes in his Galatasaray debut the previous week without finding the target. This time, coach Okan Buruk put his trust in him from the opening whistle at the Kadir Has Stadium.
Galatasaray set the tempo right from the first minutes against Kayserispor. Lucas Torreira rattled the post in the ninth minute with a thunderous strike from over 25 meters. Osimhen and Leroy Sané also missed chances in the first half before Eren Elmali broke the deadlock, finishing off a rebound from the German's shot. Elmali doubled the lead immediately after the restart. Sané whipped a cross into the box for Osimhen, but the Turkish defender beat the former Napoli star to it and nodded home. Galatasaray pulled further ahead and maintained complete control of the match.
The Nigerian forward had to wait until the 86th minute to finally break through. Osimhen combined with Mauro Icardi and Nicolo Zaniolo in midfield before darting into the box. The 26-year-old international latched onto a low cross from Zaniolo to score his team's third goal. Sané put the result beyond doubt in the dying moments of the match.
This victory allows Galatasaray to achieve a historic feat. The Istanbul club has won its first three league matches without conceding a single goal, a first since the 2007-08 season. Incidentally, the current coach was part of that team as a player during that memorable campaign. Galatasaray went on to clinch the Turkish championship that year with talents like Rigobert Song, Arda Turan, and Serkan Calik.
