Future Chelsea midfielder? Strasbourg willing to pay over €5m for Zulte Waregem star | OneFootball

Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Strasbourg are closing in on a deal in excess of €5m for Zulte Waregem youngster Pape Demba Diop. The 21-year-old is expected to leave the side after helping them gain promotion to the Pro League last season, with Ligue 1 a suitable destination for him to continue to develop. Given the links between the two clubs, it also suggests that Diop is on the Chelsea radar as well.

Diop, who was a star of Senegal’s side that won the U20 AFCON a few seasons ago, joined Zulte Waregem as a teenager from Senegalese side Diambars FC. He was in excellent form for the club this past season, with six goals and six assists in 28 games in the Challenger Pro League. It was a real breakout season for the young midfielder, given he had only played 10 games the season prior.

For Zulte Waregem, the money the receive for the youngster will allow them to strengthen the side ahead of their return to the top flight of Belgian football.
