Les Blues likely need to beat already-eliminated Poland to top Group D

France look to progress into the knockout stages at Euro 2024 as group winners as they face Poland in Dortmund.

A relatively low-key goalless draw with the Netherlands effectively booked France’s place in the last-16, but they still have work to do if they are to finish top of Group D.

Should the Netherlands beat Austria, top spot will come down to goal difference, assuming Didier Deschamps’ side can get the job doing against Poland, who became the first side to be knocked out of the tournament.

Back-to-back defeats have ended Poland’s hopes of progressing from an extremely tough group, and they are now playing for pride in their final match before flying home.

France vs Poland is scheduled for a 5pm BST kick-off on Tuesday June 25, 2024.

The match will take place at the BVB Stadion Dortmund.

Kylian Mbappe was an unused substitute against the Netherlands as he continues to recover from a broken nose, but he should be in contention to start in a protective mask against Poland.

That would lead to a reshuffle in midfield, with Adrien Rabiot dropping into a deeper role and Aurelien Tchouameni potentially the one to miss out as a result, but there are otherwise not expected to be significant changes. Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele are both a booking away from a suspension.

Poland should have Robert Lewandowski back in the starting lineup, after he came off the bench against Austria for his first appearance of the tournament.

Krzysztof Piatek could therefore drop to the bench, despite his goal in that match, while Bartosz Salamon is a doubt with an ankle injury,

France have certainly not been at their attacking best at Euro 2024 so far, with their only goal of the tournament coming through Maximilian Wober turning the ball into his own net.

Austria and the Netherlands have been tough opposition, though, and they should find this a more routine assignment, particularly if Mbappe is back in the side.
