The latest comments laid out by French president Emmanuel Macron have no doubt piqued attentions in Madrid on Monday.

This comes after Macron less-than-subtly requested that Kylian Mbappé be granted permission to line out for his country at this summer’s Olympic games.

The subject of the Olympics debate has of course long proven a headline talking point in the Mbappé to Real Madrid saga.

As much comes with the frontman desperate to line out for France at his home games in Paris later this summer.

The brass at La Liga champions Real, on the other hand, have made clear in ongoing negotiations between the parties over a pre-contract that they will not grant their incoming attacker permission to link up with Thierry Henry’s squad.

Mbappé, for his part, is already pencilled in to lead Les Bleus’ charge at the European Championships, with Florentino Pérez and co. therefore understandably keen for the 25-year-old to avoid what would represent a real chance of a physical breakdown in the case of taking to the pitch in a 2nd summer tournament, too.

As alluded to above, though, one individual who has today made clear his hope that Los Blancos will ultimately go on to change their minds comes in the form of Emmanuel Macron.

Speaking in an interview with La Tribune Dimanche, as cited by Marca, France president Macron pleaded with clubs across the continent to allow their headline stars to compete at the Paris Olympics:

“I really hope that all European clubs release their players, as the French clubs have done. That is the Olympic spirit.

“I met Mbappé’s father last week and asked him the question. He told me: “He wants to play in them” (the Olympic Games).”
