Moussa Djenepo appears to have found a new club. The 27-year-old Malian winger is, according to HLN, set to join Iranian giants Esteghlal. The side are currently managed by Portuguese head coach Ricardo Sá Pinto, who was once a coach at Standard Liege from 2017-2018. Djenepo played under Pinto that season, scoring one goal and grabbing one assist in 22 games.
It was just two seasons after that campaign that he earned a move to the Premier League. Djenepo had experienced a strong 2018/2019 campaign with Standard Liege, scoring 11 goals and providing two assists in 39 games. The winger would spend four seasons with the Saints, scoring five goals in 91 games. He returned to Standard from Southampton in the summer of 2023, but after one year was sent out on loan to Turkish side Antalyaspor. On his return, both sides had been in agreement that parting ways for a second time would suit all involved. Standard Liege will not receive a transfer fee for the former Southampton winger.
