Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has taken on an advisory role at Borussia Dortmund.
Ten Hag was in attendance during Dortmund’s defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Friday night. The Dutchman has been brought in at Dortmund as a ‘shadow coach’ to assist Nuri Sahin, who is in his first season in charge.
Dortmund have struggled for consistent results under Sahin, who replaced Edin Terzic in the summer. The 36-year-old has faced pressure during the current campaign with Dortmund in ninth place in the Bundesliga table.
Despite recent results, Sky Germany are reporting that Sahin ‘still enjoys the trust of the board’. Ten Hag has been brought in as additional coaching support, due to a strong working relationship with Dortmund advisor Matthias Sammer. The latter was sporting director at Bayern Munich when Ten Hag was in charge of the club’s second team.
Ten Hag has been out of working since being sacked by Manchester United in October. The 54-year-old led the Red Devils to FA Cup success last season but was dismissed following the club’s worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign.
