Milan coach Paulo Fonseca sidestepped the questions about the refereeing controversies and the chatter about his future in the presser before facing Red Star Belgrade (via ADNKronos).

“I understand the curiosity, but I just want to talk about the upcoming tilt. They are a difficult opponent. They have just three points but just beat Stuttgart 5-1. Ruben Loftus-Cheek will replace Christian Pulisic. I trust him completely. The Serie A and Champions League games are completely different. Each day, we’re getting closer to translating what we’re doing in Europe to the domestic matches.”

Fonseca stated that he didn’t feel on the hot seat.

“I’ve always perceived the support of the management. We’re trying to change. I’m here and continue to believe that we’re improving and we will be in a different position at the end of the season. I have no doubts about it. My confidence and positivity haven’t wavered since day out. I understand the sentiment of the fans looking at the table.”

Fonseca provided more hints about the XI.

“We may change some things, but not the center-backs. Theo Hernandez is working well, and we’re showing how to get better. His situation is different from Rafael Leao’s. We won’t play with two striker together from the start, even though I weighed it. The most important thing is to win the next game, but I can’t say that we’re not thinking about finishing in the top eight. The motivation is always different in the Champions League, but the preparation is the same, like the objective. The adversary, the structures, and strategy may change. I’m aware of Milan’s prestige in Europe.”
