AC Milan head coach Paulo Fonseca has admitted that Serie A is the ‘most difficult league of all’ as he expects a tough test against Fiorentina tonight.

Milan will be looking to make it four wins out of four and take possession of second place in the process with a game against La Viola, a side who have been up and down to start the season under new head coach Raffaele Palladino.

The Rossoneri boss has chosen to name almost the same starting team for the game in Florence, with the only change being Alvaro Morata coming back in for Ruben Loftus-Cheek after the Spanish striker shook off bursitis.

Fonseca spoke to DAZN moments before kick-off at the Stadio Artemio Franchi to preview what is an important game for his side just before the international break. MilanNews relayed his comments.

Milan have grown game after game, the derby was the turning point. Now an important away match in Serie A. Are you continuing to search for conistency?

“The team is growing, even if we didn’t win against Leverkusen I feel that the team is growing at all levels. In Serie A the games are all difficult, it will be a different game from the one played in Leverkusen.

“They mark man to man, we trained for this. And I think the players have understood that these games are played differently. For me today it is not so much the quality of our positional play that is important but winning.”

Is Morata irreplaceable?

“He is important for our structure, not only for how he plays but also for his experience, his energy, he is an example for the others for how he works defensively. Since we have been playing with him, the team has grown.”

Is it difficult to get three points away from home in Serie A?

“It’s always difficult to get three points in Serie A, against all teams. Sometimes it’s important to experience it to understand it, Serie A for me is the most difficult league of all. The coaches who come here see that it’s totally different: in one match we have to be one way, in another we have to be another way. It’s very difficult.”
