Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has directly intervened, in efforts to tie two of the club’s most long-term stars down to new contracts.
That’s according to Marca, who point towards Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić as the pair in question.
Midfielders Kroos and Modrić are of course both set to see their current terms at the Santiago Bernabéu come to a close in the summer.
After lengthy deliberations, the call was recently made to offer both new contracts, though, with Los Blancos now hard at work behind the scenes to tie two key members of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad down for another year.
And, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, taking direct control of the situation over the last 24 hours has been none other than Florentino Pérez.
As per a report from the aforementioned Marca, Real Madrid’s president ‘is the one who is putting the finishing touches on the continuity of the two players’.
The Spanish patron is understood to have sat down for formal meetings with both Kroos and Modrić on Friday, to reiterate their importance to the club, and lay out the terms of their respective one-year renewal offers.
Agreements with the iconic midfield duo, as a result, are considered to be all but imminent.
