Flamengo deleted a series of social media posts in which they trolled Chelsea and its star player Cole Palmer after their stunning comeback win at the Fifa Club World Cup.
Pedro Neto shot the Blues into an early lead, but goals from Bruno Henrique and Danilo in the space of three minutes in the second half put the Brazilian outfit ahead at Linconl Financial Field.
Moments later Chelsea were reduced to ten men when Nicolas Jackson was sent off for a horror challenge, before Wallace Yan put the icing on the cake with a late goal to complete a famous 3-1 victory for Flamengo.
The club’s X accounts posted numerous times after the full-time whistle, many of which poked fun at their Premier League opposition.
One post from their English language account read: “Too hot for ‘Cold Palmer'”, and included a screenshot of the weather app, which showed that it was 29°C in Philadelphia.
The same account quote tweeted a Chelsea fan who said “your tears will be beautiful at full time”, responding: “Chelsea is just a small neighbourhood in London”.
@Flamengo_en posted a photo of Danilo celebrating his goal by cupping his ears at the crowd, asking “Where did all the Chelsea fans go?”
They followed that up with a graphic of a vulture, the club’s mascot, standing on top of the Chelsea lion. “When the lion dies, the vulture becomes king”, they said in response to a post from Chelsea in May which stated “The Lion’s always king”.
Their Brazilian language account also got in on the act, posting a version of the Drake meme featuring Jorginho at Chelsea and Flamengo, and another meme replacing the lion in Chelsea’s crest with Flik from A Bug’s Life.
Their English account have left one post up which called the game an “easy win”.
The result sends Flamengo through to the last-16 of the Club World Cup as they sit top of Group D on six points and leaves Chelsea needing to win their final group game against ES Tunis to progress.
