Here are five reasons you can’t afford to miss this weekend’s Serie A action.

Milan derby drama

The biggest fixture of the season so far takes place at San Siro on Sunday night with the 240th official meeting between Inter and Milan.

The last meeting between these clubs could not have been a bigger spectacle as a pulsating April meeting ended with Inter being crowned Italian champions and three red cards being handed out as things boiled over, as they tend to do in this fixture, in injury-time.

It should be a little calmer here. But that’s no guarantee.

Both were in action in the Champions League in midweek, with Inter holding Manchester City to a 0-0 draw, and Milan beaten at home by Liverpool FC – a result which didn’t go down well in view of the derby, with their Ultras lambasting them for playing ‘without balls’.

Another chastening derby loss here, which would be a record-setting seventh in succession (with a goal aggregate of 14-2), could lead to big problems on the red-and-black half of the city.

Conte’s hostile Juve return

For the first time since his bitter Juventus departure on the eve of the season 10 years ago, Antonio Conte will finally return to his old stomping ground to face the likely wrath of fans.

He does so as head coach of Napoli, who are a point ahead of the Old Lady ahead of their trip north to the Allianz Stadium on Saturday evening.

Conte, of course, has already attracted the ire of the Juventus faithful when he made the decision to take over at long-time rivals Inter but a twist of fate due to the COVID-19 pandemic meant that all three of his trips to Turin while Nerazzurri boss took place behind closed doors.

That didn’t stop him becoming embroiled in tension with those who were inside the venue, namely then-president Andrea Agnelli who he appeared to aim a middle finger gesture towards at half-time, in classic Conte fashion.

When he made the move to Inter, there was even a petition from a large section of Juve fans to have his star removed from the club’s hall of fame – much to Conte’s chagrin. There’s likely to be little love lost when they come head-to-head at last this weekend.

A new era for Roma

After failing to register a win from any of their first four games, Roma made the shock decision on Wednesday to sack the legendary Daniele De Rossi just months after putting their faith in him with a three-year deal.

Ex-Torino boss Ivan Jurić is the man who has been chosen to get things back on track in the Eternal City.

But his task is not an easy one with table toppers Udinese visiting the Stadio Olimpico looking to build on their impressive start to the season.

Particularly in attack, Roma’s players have not clicked yet this season and it was one of the contributing factors to De Rossi’s departure. Jurić’s top priority will be getting his big-money forward line firing on all cylinders.

First Fiorentina win?

While there is no chance of Raffaelle Palladino receiving the ‘De Rossi treatment’ and being sacked so soon into the Serie A season, the new Fiorentina boss will nonetheless be desperate to finally get the winning monkey off his back.

After outstanding work at Monza, he deserved the step up this summer when La Viola came calling to replace Vincenzo Italiano but he has struggled to turn a point into three, with his side drawing three of their four games so far.

Only three times before (last doing so in 1977) have they failed to win any of their first five and after failing to take the lead in any of their first three games, they went ahead twice last weekend in Bergamo – but still conspired to lose to an Ademola Lookman-inspired Atalanta.

Sixth-placed Lazio do not represent an easy opportunity to finally get in the win column, particularly when the Biancocelesti have won more games against Fiorentina (59) than any other opponent in Serie A history.

In Yamal’s footsteps

It isn’t bad company for any player to be in when statistics match up favourably with Barcelona and Spain sensation Lamine Yamal.

So watch out for Parma’s Ange-Yoan Bonny, not only this weekend against Lecce but over the course of the season.

In Europe’s top five leagues, only Yamal is younger than the 20-year-old for players to start four games this season and register at least three goal involvements.

The Ducali striker has taken to the top flight like a duck to water and has two goals and one assist already.
