Premier League clubs are set to lead the way for transfer spending again this summer and few markets look as appealing for recruitment as the Bundesliga.
Germany’s top division is brimming with talent and a whole host of players have already been linked with transfers to English football.
We’ve picked out five Bundesliga players who could move to the Premier League this summer.
Benjamin Sesko snubbed interest from England last summer to recommit his future to RB Leipzig. Arsenal and Chelsea each expressed interest in the 21-year-old, after a spectacular second half to his debut campaign in Germany.
Sesko decided against a move in favour of continuing his development in Leipzig. He’s scored 17 times in 36 appearances this season and is expected to again be the subject of approaches this summer.
Arsenal’s interest has not waned, while several of England’s top teams are in the market for a centre-forward this summer. Sesko would cost in excess of €70m (£58.3m) but there are few better number nine prospects in Europe right now. The Slovenian combines a 6ft 5in frame with elite athletic capacity and fine finishing off either foot.
Liverpool look set to wave farewell to a full-back with elite attacking output this summer. Could the Reds raid the Bundesliga for another as his replacement?
Jeremie Frimpong has gone from strength to strength since leaving British soil for Germany, where he’s emerged as an explosive marauding force from wing-back. He’s been named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season in consecutive campaigns and was crucial to Bayer Leverkusen’s maiden title success last term.
He recorded 18 goal contributions in 27 starts during that title triumph, and has returned a respectable nine goals and assists in 2024/25. Given his end product, homegrown status as a product of the Manchester City academy, and £34m release clause, he’s sure to be at the forefront of recruiter’s thoughts.
Enzo Millot looks likely to leave Stuttgart this summer with the midfielder boasting an enticing release clause in his deal. The Frenchman is free to leave the German side for just €20m (£16.6m), a figure that has attracted Arsenal and Tottenham among others.
Millot was a key part of Stuttgart’s surprise Champions League qualification last season and impressed during their campaign in Europe. He scored twice and provided three assists in eight Champions League appearances and ranked in the top five percent of attacking midfielders in the competition for expected assists, through balls and fouls drawn.
At just 22, he’s a prospect bursting with potential.
Hugo Etikike’s electric debut season at Eintracht Frankfurt has placed him on the radar of English clubs. The Frenchman joined Frankfurt from Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of €16.5 million after an initial loan spell last season. He’s thrived amid the opportunities that were not forthcoming in France and has scored 19 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions.
His combination of a wiry 6ft 3in frame, elastic footwork and goal threat have drawn comparisons to Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak. As clubs circle for the latter, Etikike could emerge as an attractive alternative. Frankfurt, however, will not sell on the cheap.
Jamie Gittens followed the path trodden by Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham in leaving English football as a teenager for Borussia Dortmund. It’s proven to be a smart move, with the winger announcing his arrival as a first-team star this season.
He’s scored 11 goals and provided three assists in all competitions, while leading the Bundesliga for progressive carries and successful take-ons per 90 minutes. An excitement machine, English clubs are already weighing up bids for the England u-21 international.
“Despite his current performances and form it’s absolutely out of a question that Jamie Gittens has the highest potential of all mentioned players,” argues Florian Först from the German-speaking football magazine Kickfieber.de.
“His abilities could make him a world-class player in the future, but therefore the next step of his career needs to be well thought out. This summer a departure from Dortmund seems to be realistic since the club struggles a lot in the league and could be dependent on sales.
“A return to England and into the Premier League is likely. Currently, a transfer to Chelsea would make the most sense given the club are not satisfied with Mykhailo Mudryk or Jadon Sancho. Noni Madueke could also leave this summer.
“Gittens could fit into Maresca’s strategy as well as the club’s recruitment philosophy and prove himself at one of his former youth clubs. At the same time, Chelsea have shown they are unafraid to pay big for talent. Dortmund are likely to demand a transfer fee of around 100 million euros.”
