Manchester United’s former goalkeeper David de Gea is receiving interest from Serie A side Fiorentina.

The Spaniard left the club last summer after 12 seasons at Old Trafford on the expiry of his deal.

The fan favourite represented the side 545 times and is seventh on the club’s all-time appearance list.

Nonetheless, manager Erik ten Hag decided that he wanted a goalkeeper who was more comfortable on the ball and signed his former player at Ajax, Andre Onana from Inter Milan.

Reports recently emerged that De Gea was left angry with the United manager and would have considered returning to Old Trafford if he were no longer in the hotseat.

Peculiarly, one year after leaving Manchester, he has still not found a new club despite being linked with a move to basically every corner of the Earth.

Journalist Matteo Moretto reports that “Fiorentina has asked about David de Gea” but “there is still no firm decision on the future of the Spanish goalkeeper.”

It was thought earlier in the week that another Italian side, Genoa, were close to striking a deal with the former Spain international but this never materialised.

Clearly the 33 year old expects movement on his next club soon as he posted an image of an hour glass on his X profile ten days ago.

There have also been links to La Liga teams in Spain, the United States of America and numerous clubs in Saudi Arabia. But the Spaniard has been unable to agree a deal with any club as of yet.

It has also been recently reported that he will consider retirement unless he is granted the starting role at a “major” club for the upcoming season.

Whilst not performing to his peak level of around 2018, De Gea was still a Premier League level goalkeeper with the capacity to make fantastic saves on occasion in the 2022/23 season.

It is also often forgotten that he won the Premier League’s Golden Glove award in his final season at the club.
