As the football world braces itself for the highly anticipated UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg between Inter Milan and FC Barcelona, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has openly declared where his loyalties lie.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday night’s showdown at San Siro, Infantino made no effort to hide his bias. When asked to choose between the two European giants, the Italian responded candidly: “Everyone knows I’m an Inter Milan fan.”

It is not a surprising confession for those familiar with his history — Infantino has consistently voiced his support for Inter on various occasions, and this time is no different as the Nerazzurri edge closer to a potential final in Munich.

Backing Lautaro and the Argentine’s legacy at Inter

Infantino also heaped praise on Inter’s Argentine connection, singling out Lautaro Martínez as a key figure in the club’s current run.

“Inter is the team of the Argentinians,” he said, drawing attention not only to Lautaro but also to past legends such as Javier Zanetti and Diego Milito, who were instrumental in Inter’s 2010 treble-winning season.

For Simone Inzaghi’s team, having the backing of football’s most powerful figure is a vote of confidence ahead of one of their biggest games in years.

Barcelona: motivated but short-handed

On the other side, Barcelona enter the clash with high motivation, largely due to the return of Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker’s presence brings a significant boost to a side looking to overturn a difficult first-leg result.

However, Hansi Flick’s squad is not without setbacks — Alejandro Balde is confirmed to be out, and despite some early hope around Marc Casado, the 21-year-old has also been ruled out.

Barcelona must now dig deep, relying on their attacking firepower and resilience to keep their Champions League hopes alive.

With Inter holding the advantage of home support — and now presidential endorsement — the stage is set for a dramatic and emotionally charged encounter at the San Siro.

Will Barça defy the odds, or will Infantino’s favourite march on to Munich? The answer will come under the bright lights of Milan.
