Feyenoord to provide next Champions League test

Away match in Rotterdam

As part of the fourth matchday in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League we are travelling to Rotterdam to face Feyenoord this Wednesday 6 November at 21:00. We have one aim in the Dutch harbour city - finally taking points! Going three matchdays without anything to show in the table is obviously not what we had in mind, at all - nonetheless we are just three points away from the top 24, who will make the knockout rounds.

A difficult injury situation (more on that below) and an intimidating away atmosphere do not make our task any easier, but if we wanted it to be easy, we would not be in the UEFA Champions League. Our opponents have taken two wins in the last two matchdays against Girona (3-2) and Benfica (3-1) to make it to 16th in the table. Brian Priske's side also won their last Eredivisie match, but are down in fourth presently.

Even though visiting De Kuip, Feyenoord's legendary stadium, is always difficult, a win there is possible - as Bayer Leverkusen showed with a comfortable 4-0 triumph in September.

Our opponents have just as many absences to contend with as we do, with 19-year-old starlet Antoni Milambo (with 3 Champions League goals!), Calvin Stengs and strike star Santiago Gimenez all out, and further players a doubt. Gernot Trauner, an Austrian international and key performer for Feyenoord in recent years, is not one of them. He was rested in the most recent league encounter, but should come back in to boost the defence for our visit.

Injury news

Not available for the match are Amar Dedic (adductors), Fernando (thigh), Takumu Kawamura (knee), Bryan Okoh (thigh) and Moussa Yeo (ankle).
Alexander Schlager is out suspended.
Lucas Gourna-Douath, Maurits Kjaergaard and Petar Ratkov are doubts.
Stefan Bajcetic and Mads Bidstrup could not train today due to illness.

Views

I know the stadium in Rotterdam and the special atmosphere there well. I know also that it will be difficult for us to play our own football there. Feyenoord play out from the back really well and create a lot of pressure. We will give everything we can, and we need to put in a top performance to get a result there.

Our situation in the Champions League is not easy, of course, after three defeats. Our upcoming opponents are definitely not any easier. It all starts on Wednesday, when we face a strong team and intimidating atmosphere with Feyenoord. We have to show character and play the best football we can.
